Forrest James Safaris is an African travel company that specializes in leading and organizing a wide variety of safari experiences throughout Southern and Eastern Africa. We design and customize our bespoke itineraries for international guests to destinations that have been selected for their wildlife and international standards of service.
Founded in 2018, Forrest James Safaris was born through a love and passion for both wildlife and authentic travel experiences in Africa. Our FJS Travel Experts have journeyed hundreds of thousands of kilometers, visited thousands of lodges in hundreds of destinations, and partnered with local travel curators for their intimidate knowledge in Southern and Eastern Africa.

OUR founder.
Forrest James Detwiler was born in the United States and has had a love for animals since his early years. After being exposed to international travel at an early age, he hasn’t stopped with solo excursions to over 50 countries, 5 continents, including 12 countries on the African continent. With this combination of passion for wildlife and travel, he founded Forrest James Safaris with the goal of inspiring travelers from across the globe to witness the incredible animals, experience the local culture, and to preserve and conserve the protective areas for wildlife that would cease to exist without tourism. With 18 years of combined experience in the hospital and safari industry, Forrest has the expert knowledge to provide an authentic travel experience to Africa that also meets international standards of service and accommodation. He has lived, worked, and traveled throughout Africa for the last 10 years and is currently living in South Africa when he’s not on safari.
